Starting from difference

In this podcast, Zoe Partington and Jos Boys, Co-Founders of The DisOrdinary Architecture Project sat down with fem_arc STUDIO to to talk about how hard it is to challenge norms, who is enabled or disabled by existing spaces, and how DisOrdinary Architecture projects enable architecture students to explore built spaces beyond their usual perspective.

In the conversation ideas are explored around how thinking differently about disability (and ability) can open up the design of our built surroundings to new forms of creativity and critique. Instead of treating disabled people as merely a ‘technical’ and ‘legal’ problem for architecture and urban design, we show how starting from disability – from the rich differences that biodiversity and neuro-divergence bring – is a powerful creative force for design.”

F_PODCAST talks about architecture, feminisms, intersectionality. We visit non-conforming spatial practitioners–architects and artists–who are exploring spatial methods to create more equitable spaces. In their workplaces we talk about their ways of working, we learn about individual backgrounds, about networks and strategies.
