Kampnagel Hamburg

2023

Kampnagel is a performing arts theatre that already embeds disability arts into its programming. It is now exploring how to adapt and transform its spaces so as to be truly accessible, as part of an ongoing refurbishment and new build programme.

As part of this development Jos Boys and disabled artist James Zatka-Haas ran experiential workshops with staff and members of the public to co-explore how foyer spaces might better support a diverse variety of bodies and minds. In ‘Rest as Resistance’ Jos’s group adapted spaces for lying down in public, whilst James’s workshop- called ‘Moving Elephants into Rooms” focused in on how we accommodate others, and on how to do this more openly and with greater understanding.
