For Living and Dying Otherwise

At the start of 2026, The DisOrdinary Architecture Project began collaborating with XYZ Projects on Elders, 2085 (For Living and Dying Otherwise), a live performance and architectural installation that imagines alternative visions of the care home.

XYZ Projects, founded by El Jaunt and Dr. Ravi Piccus is a trans- and disabled-led healthcare arts collective who have been appointed Gasworks’ 2025-2026 Participation Residency Artists. Their work, through Elders, 2085, “brings together artists, healthcare workers, carers, activists and architects to co-create community-made healthcare information artworks that reimagine public systems of care” informed by trans+ and disabled knowledge.

In February 2026, Scar Barclay with El and Ravi ran the first of the co-design workshops titled Care and The Home. This workshop invited Tonic Housing, the UK’s first provider of LGBTQ+ affirmative retirement housing, and members of Out & Proud African (OPAL) to explore the trans queer care home of the future through memory, comfort and desire.

These conversations will be used to co-design an architectural model of a fantasy care home to accompany the performances in 2026.

Elders, 2085 (For Living and Dying Otherwise) is funded by Gasworks, Wellcome Collection and Unlimited.
